Discover Marquette… One of Kansas’ Best Kept Secrets! |
|
The city of Marquette, Kansas is offering free building lots to families who are looking for a really great small town, in the heart of America, to call home. The building lots are located in a development on the west edge of town with beautiful, open views of evening sunsets and the Smoky Valley.
Life in Marquette is relaxed, safe and fun. We pride ourselves in a large variety of annual events and activities for all to participate in and enjoy. Stroll or bike around town and you can count on being greeted by friendly citizens on every street.
Marquette is a progressive community and a great place to live and raise your family. We offer a friendly, small town atmosphere and an excellent education for your children in a safe school system, with small classes, where all students can participate in sports and activities. We take pride in our municipal swimming pool, summer recreation programs, dance and karate studio, three churches, fitness center, licensed day care facility and preschool, and in our very interesting business district. A grocery store, bank, library, gift shops, art studio, photography studio, museums and eating establishments make up our historic downtown area. You will find lower cost rental homes, a well-run nursing home facility and new senior apartments. In addition to all that Marquette offers, a short drive to nearby Kanopolis Lake adds the perfect backdrop for camping, boating, mountain biking, fishing, hiking, horseback riding and hunting.
The steps in applying for a free lot are: 1.) Complete and return the application. 2.) If you are offered a lot, a developer’s agreement will be sent for you to sign to hold the lot of your choice. You have one year from the date on the developer’s agreement to complete your home.
The building requirements are as follows: 1.) The minimum roof pitch must be at least 5 to 12. 2.) The home must be built to residential design standards. 3.) The home must be on a basement or crawl space foundation.
The city has waived all utility hook-up fees and there is no building permit fee. All utilities, including natural gas, will be on the property.
